There are two single crews for a bed & breakfast: One person who is both manager, chef, and housekeeper can handle four rooms per day. A manager/chef who has someone else do the housekeeping can handle eight rooms per day. A bed & breakfast in a neighborhood has an amazing benefit not often discussed: it allows homes in that neighborhood to avoid the need for a guest bedroom if desired. Before the Meltdown, guest suites with their closets and baths had grown to around 250 square feet. At $200 per square foot for new construction of better-than-average quality, that guest suite could easily cost $50,000. Avoiding the mortgage payments on that amount would easily pay for quite a few nights at the B&B for a family’s guests.
